This contest, held to raise social awareness of various family forms and to reexamine the meaning of families that are diversifying due to changes in population structure, received submissions ranging from works addressing low birth rates and regional extinction issues to videos depicting various family types such as adoption, single-parent, and multicultural families.
Among the submitted works, a total of nine teams were selected through first and second rounds of judging: one Grand Prize winner, one Excellence Award winner, three Merit Award winners, and four Encouragement Award winners. The Grand Prize went to Yumi Bae's "Diverse Families Protecting the Golden Time." Han Mi-yeon explained that the work stood out for its message that the way to save the future of the Republic of Korea and solve the population crisis is to respect differences and recognize diverse families, as well as for its use of hand-drawn illustrations expressed through video.
The Excellence Award was given to the Tuy team for "The Day We Became Family," which was praised as a masterpiece that calmly narrated the story of a girl who became a family through adoption in a monologue format. The Merit Awards went to "What Choice Would You Make?" which talks about the happiness children bring through actual family interviews; "Earthling Report," which humorously depicts family from an alien's perspective; and "Your Life," which movingly expresses a father's deep love in a single-parent family. The Encouragement Awards were given to four works: "Our Family Is Not Strange," "We Are All the Same Family," "Our Family Story," and "My Everything." Prize money of 2 million KRW for the Grand Prize, 1 million KRW for the Excellence Award, 500,000 KRW for the Merit Awards, and 200,000 KRW for the Encouragement Awards were awarded to the winners.
Han Mi-yeon said, "I hope this contest has provided an opportunity for many people to understand and empathize with diverse family forms," adding, "We will continue to communicate steadily with many people interested in population issues through various activities."
The winning videos of the contest can be viewed on the Korea Future Population Research Institute's website, official YouTube, and Instagram. The nine final selected works will be used in future promotional activities and campaigns to raise awareness of population issues by the institute.
