Hapcheon Hwanggang Water Intake Countermeasures Committee Holds Emergency Meeting to Block Proposal of Nakdong River Special Act

Press Conference and Rally at the National Assembly to Block the Introduction of the Special Act Approved

The Hwanggang Regional Water Intake Plant Opposition Civil Committee announced on the 3rd that it held an emergency meeting at the main conference room on the 3rd floor of the Hapcheon County Office in Gyeongnam.

During the committee meeting, they discussed the schedule for a press conference at the National Assembly to oppose the proposal of the 'Nakdong River Special Act,' which was jointly submitted by lawmakers Kwak Gyutae and Min Hongcheol.

The Hwanggang Regional Water Intake Opposition Committee is holding an emergency meeting to prevent the enactment of the Nakdong River Special Act.

The 'Nakdong River Special Act' includes provisions such as exemption from preliminary feasibility studies to expedite and facilitate the diversification of water intake sources, and the unified processing of permits and approvals for 16 related laws concerning the project.

The Civil Committee determined that the special act is a unilateral legislative push by the government to promote the project without the consent of affected residents. Therefore, they decided to finalize the schedule for a National Assembly press conference to oppose the bill and to hold a separate rally at a later date.

Co-chairman Yeo Hanhoon stated, "Despite strong opposition from Hapcheon residents regarding the installation of the Hwanggang Regional Water Intake Plant, we are outraged by the unilateral proposal of the special act that ignores the affected residents. We will explore all possible means, including a National Assembly press conference, to block the passage of the special act."

Meanwhile, the Hwanggang Regional Water Intake Plant Opposition Civil Committee reported that as a result of the meeting, the National Assembly press conference and rally to oppose the special act were approved, and the rally will be organized in solidarity with the committees from Changnyeong County and Uiryeong County.
