Economist Intelligence Unit of the UK announces comprehensive score of 87
City brand appeal and value of 'Global Hub City Busan' and 'Asia's Happiest City Busan'
The city of Busan has achieved the distinction of ranking 6th in Asia for the second consecutive year in the 'Global Liveability Index 2024' report, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a leading British economic analysis agency.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the economic analysis arm of the prominent British weekly The Economist, annually publishes the 'Global Liveability Index' report, which evaluates the living conditions and overall liveability of major cities around the world.
The evaluation covers five categories: ▲Stability ▲Healthcare ▲Culture and Environment ▲Education ▲Infrastructure. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released the 2024 report on the 26th local time.
According to this year's report, the city achieved a total score of 87 points, maintaining a high score in the upper 80s for the second year in a row. Busan also retained its position as the 6th most liveable city in Asia, as it did last year.
This is attributed to the continued rise in Busan's city brand value, which made a 'quantum jump' in 2023 with a score in the upper 80s. In 2022, Busan had only scored in the 70s in the overall evaluation.
The 2024 EIU Asia Liveable Cities rankings are as follows: Osaka (1st), Tokyo (2nd), Singapore (3rd), Hong Kong (4th), Seoul (5th), and Busan (6th).
The city explained that Busan's city brand appeal and value, as a 'Global Hub City' and a place 'where people would want to live again if born anew,' are gaining worldwide recognition, with leading global city brand indices giving Busan positive evaluations.
In fact, Busan has been performing well in various global city brand evaluation indices, thanks to its rapidly rising brand value.
Recently, Busan achieved its highest-ever rankings, placing 27th among 121 financial cities (9th in Asia) in the Global Financial Centres Index by the global think tank Z/YEN, and 14th among 79 smart cities (3rd in Asia) in the Smart City Index.
Additionally, Busan entered the 'World's Best Cities 2024' report by the renowned consulting firm Resonance Consultancy for the first time, earning praise as the 'Miami of Korea' and ranking 67th among 270 cities.
Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, "This result is a concrete outcome of the wave of innovation that began with the start of the 8th popularly elected administration to realize Busan as a 'Global Hub City' and a city 'where people would want to live again if born anew.' Busan is already a liveable city, blessed with natural beauty and warm-hearted people. We will work even harder to promote the appeal and value of Busan's city brand to the world."
