Mapo-gu Haetbit Center Nurse Provides Home Health Care for Families with Infants and Toddlers

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will implement the ‘Early Life Health Management Project’ starting July 1, targeting pregnant women and families with infants under 2 years old.

The ‘Early Life Health Management Project’ is a service where infant nurses and social workers visit homes directly to provide tailored health management, including ▲health consultations for mothers and newborns ▲child development checks ▲parenting education ▲postpartum depression assessments.

This project focuses on prenatal and early childhood periods, which are the starting points for health and brain development, aiming to alleviate the psychological and physical burdens of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting experienced by pregnant women with the help of experts, under the goal of ‘an equitable start for a healthy future.’

Eligible participants are pregnant women (registered residents of Mapo-gu) and families with infants under 2 years old who register and apply for the service at the Mapo-gu Sunshine Center, including multicultural mothers and grandparent-headed families.

The Early Life Health Management Project is conducted by categorizing visits into basic and continuous visits based on a registration evaluation of pregnant women analyzing factors such as economic vulnerability, psychological state, and parenting environment.

For basic visits, infant nurses visit homes 1 to 3 times within 8 weeks after childbirth to provide basic health management education, including postpartum depression assessments.

Families requiring continuous visits, such as those with maternal depression or teenage/disabled mothers, can receive additional counseling and support until the child turns 2 years old.

Additionally, as needed, dedicated social workers provide parenting support and connect families to specialized counseling and welfare centers appropriate to their situation. Programs for mothers with children of similar ages are also operated to strengthen parenting skills and relieve stress through communication.

Applications can be made by visiting the Mapo-gu Sunshine Center (2nd floor of the Public Health Center) from 20 weeks of pregnancy to within 6 weeks after birth, or online via the e-Public Health Center portal or the Aimajung app.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Early Life Health Management Office at the Mapo-gu Public Health Center Sunshine Center.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “Infant nurses at the Mapo-gu Sunshine Center will be a reliable support for mothers and infants facing the unfamiliar and challenging situations of childbirth and parenting,” adding, “Mapo-gu will do its best to create an optimal environment where anyone can give birth and raise children without worry.”
