Public, Private, and Academic Education Stakeholders Gather to Share Achievements of the 7th and 8th Elected Terms and Discuss Future Development Plans... Efforts for Revolutionary Improvement of Educational Environment Securing 12 Billion KRW for School Education Expenses, Establishing Two Education Support Centers
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held the '2024 Jungnang Education Development Town Hall Meeting' on the 2nd at the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center to share the educational achievements of the past 7th and 8th local government terms and discuss future development plans.
The '2024 Jungnang Education Development Town Hall Meeting' was a communication forum where key education stakeholders from the public, private, and academic sectors?including vice principals, parent association presidents, school operation committees, student representatives, Jungnang Future Education District committee members, lifelong learning participants, and seven groups from the Jungnang-gu Academy Association?gathered to exchange opinions for the advancement of education in Jungnang.
During the town hall meeting, various discussions took place, including ▲ achievements in educational expense support and hopes for expanding educational funding ▲ efforts to diversify support and operational projects for parent associations ▲ requests to expand support for matching projects by the education office ▲ continuation of the Jungnang Future Education District project following the Innovative Education District, and future expansion of school-community linkage projects.
The district plans to actively reflect the discussions from this meeting into education policies to leap forward as the best public education city.
Additionally, the district has been striving for a groundbreaking improvement in the educational environment with the goal of becoming the top public education area.
This year, the district's school education expense budget is 12 billion KRW, more than tripling from 3.8 billion KRW in 2018. This figure ranks first in Seoul relative to financial independence. The district has also set a long-term goal to increase the budget by 2 billion KRW annually, aiming to support 16 billion KRW by 2026.
To provide broad experiential and educational opportunities, the district is further expanding its educational infrastructure.
Following the opening of the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center in May 2021, the district began construction of the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center in Myeonmok-dong this June. Jungnang-gu is the only district among Seoul’s autonomous districts to have two education support centers. Since its opening, the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center has received great response from students, schools, and residents, with cumulative program participation reaching 110,000. Unlike the existing center, which focuses on career guidance, college entrance, and lifelong programs, the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center will differentiate itself by focusing on basic science programs such as physics and chemistry, biology, and creativity programs.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Today’s town hall meeting was an opportunity for various education stakeholders to come together, discuss Jungnang education, and pool wisdom. Going forward, schools, parents, and the local community will continue to communicate and cooperate as one to make Jungnang-gu the best education city.”
