Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, made remarks suggesting that the international community cannot maintain sanctions against North Korea indefinitely and that consideration should be given to ending them.
According to major foreign media including DPA on the 1st (local time), Ambassador Nebenzya held a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York and said, "We believe that imposing endless sanctions on (North Korea) is unfair and frustrating."
He added, "We need to think about how to modify the central system of sanctions against North Korea," and "It cannot continue forever."
Ambassador Nebenzya did not respond to reporters' questions about whether North Korea's nuclear tests should be permitted.
These remarks by Ambassador Nebenzya came amid the warming of North Korea-Russia relations, including Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea on the 19th of last month?the first in 24 years?and the signing of a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty' that effectively includes automatic military intervention.
