President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is on an official visit to Korea, on the afternoon of the 2nd and urged him to take an interest in enabling Korean companies to contribute to Vietnam's liquefied natural gas (LNG) and critical minerals industries. He also requested cooperation to ensure a firm international response to North Korea.
The Presidential Office stated that President Yoon exchanged views with Prime Minister Chinh on ways to develop bilateral relations. Prime Minister Chinh is on an official visit to Korea from the 30th of last month to the 3rd of this month at the invitation of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
On this day, President Yoon told Prime Minister Chinh that he hopes institutional cooperation such as customs clearance simplification between the two countries will continue to be strengthened to further activate trade and investment. He also requested that the transfer of retired ships and patrol boats from Korea and defense industry cooperation proceed smoothly to strengthen strategic cooperation in the defense and security sectors.
In particular, President Yoon asked the Vietnamese leadership, including Prime Minister Chinh, to take an interest in and actively support the activities of Korean companies operating in Vietnam, saying, "I hope that Korean companies with excellent technological capabilities will participate in Vietnam's LNG power generation projects, critical minerals development and processing sectors, contributing to Vietnam's energy transition efforts."
Prime Minister Chinh evaluated that the two countries have developed relations in various fields based on a comprehensive strategic partnership and that there is great potential for further development. He also highly praised the contributions of Korean companies to Vietnam's economic development and responded that efforts such as regulatory improvements will be made to expand Korean companies' investment in Vietnam.

President Yoon also asked for cooperation on the North Korean issue, which has recently escalated provocations. This was in the context that North Korea is flagrantly violating United Nations Security Council resolutions by continuing nuclear and ballistic missile development and provocations, and that the international community must firmly uphold its non-acceptance of North Korea's nuclear weapons and thoroughly implement sanctions against North Korea.
Prime Minister Chinh expressed support for President Yoon's vision for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and said that strategic communication and cooperation for denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and regional peace and stability should be further strengthened.
President Yoon also expressed hope to work together with Vietnam, a key partner in implementing the Indo-Pacific strategy and the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI), for freedom, peace, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. President Yoon and Prime Minister Chinh agreed to closely cooperate to establish the "Korea-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," which is being promoted to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Korea-ASEAN dialogue relations this coming October.
