Jeonnam Teachers' Union 'Welcomes' Kim Dae-jung Superintendent's Education Promotion Plan

The Jeonnam Teachers' Labor Union expressed its welcome on the 2nd regarding the major policy promotion plans announced by Kim Dae-jung, the Jeonnam Superintendent of Education, at the press conference marking the 2nd anniversary of his 4th term by direct election.

The Jeonnam Teachers' Union stated, “We welcome Superintendent Kim Dae-jung's announcement to focus efforts so that teachers can concentrate on their classes,” and added, “We confirmed the determination of Superintendent Kim Dae-jung and the Provincial Office of Education to implement second-half policies centered on the educational field based on the fundamental principle that the quality of education cannot surpass the quality of teachers.”

They continued, “At the meeting with Superintendent Kim Dae-jung held on June 28, we proposed measures to restore teachers' essential duties,” and “Superintendent Kim Dae-jung strongly agreed with the measures regarding teachers' essential duties and promised to strive to create an environment where teachers can focus solely on educational activities.”

Furthermore, they said, “Education is a crucial factor that determines the future and society of Jeonnam. According to Article 20, Paragraph 4 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, ‘Teachers educate students in accordance with laws and regulations,’” and “The Jeonnam Teachers' Union hopes that this announcement by the Provincial Office of Education will serve as a catalyst to prepare concrete measures and raise the qualitative level of education in Jeonnam.”
