Full-scale Auction Begins at Nonghyup Wholesale Market
Request to Avoid Flood Shipment
Changnyeong County, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 2nd that it held the first auction ceremony for the 2024 new garlic harvest at five local Nonghyup (Changnyeong, Namji, Upo, Ibang, Yeongsan) wholesale markets on the 1st.
The event was attended by County Governor Sung Nakin, Changnyeong County Council Chairman Hong Seongdu, Provincial Assemblyman Lee Kyungjae, county council members, and heads of local Nonghyup branches, who encouraged garlic-producing farmers and toured the auction site.
Despite the sweltering weather with midday temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius on the day of the event, garlic-producing farmers from neighboring cities and counties also showed great interest, befitting the largest garlic production area in Korea. About 2,080 farms participated in the auction, and 892 tons of garlic were shipped.
Governor Sung Nakin said, "I ask the farmers to adjust their shipping schedules to avoid a flood of shipments," and added, "I hope this auction will lead to prices that satisfy both producers and consumers, and that the excellence of high-quality Changnyeong garlic will become widely known."
