The ‘Grand Jeonnam 10 Major Projects’ is a future vision presented at a press briefing on June 25, which includes ▲ Establishment of Jeonnam Special Self-Governing Province ▲ New Growth Axis Future Exciting Jeonnam ▲ Population Great Transition Jeonnam ▲ Namdo K-Culture Jeonnam ▲ Energy Capital Jeonnam ▲ Land of Opportunity Attracting Companies Jeonnam ▲ Global Brand Life Industry Jeonnam ▲ Future-Expanding SOC Jeonnam ▲ Warm and Happy Community Jeonnam ▲ Safety First Jeonnam.

Governor Kim said, “The 10 major projects clearly indicate the direction we must take, so I hope everyone will work hard for the remaining two years under this motto,” adding, “All departments should explain the basic situation and policies of the provincial government in communication with residents and strive to present hopeful plans for the future, while also swiftly implementing urgent measures for public safety and livelihood.”

Regarding recent achievements such as the exemption from preliminary feasibility study for the Goheung space launch vehicle national industrial complex, designation of Hwasun as a national advanced strategic bio-specialized industrial complex, and selection of five opportunity development special zones covering 1.25 million pyeong for industries, he said, “While it is a proud accomplishment to have confirmed these projects, the important thing is to attract many good companies, including anchor companies,” urging efforts to revitalize the local economy and to make the relevant industries a global hub.

On efforts to secure national funding, he noted, “The government’s tax revenue is in an emergency situation, so I expect it will be more difficult to secure funds next year than this year,” encouraging a strategic and systematic approach by each department. He especially emphasized that for large-scale SOC projects where progress is slow and budget cuts are feared, related agencies should be consulted to ensure no delays from the original plan, and efforts should be made to reflect budget increases in next year’s budget.

He also said, “All cities and counties that applied for the second round of the pilot project for education development special zones have been selected, and the joint application of Mokpo National University and Dongshin University, preliminarily designated among the 30 Glocal Universities, is expected to be officially designated soon. We are working closely with cities, counties, and universities as an integrated team, so the results are promising,” adding, “To overcome the crisis of regional extinction and revitalize the local economy, cooperation between universities and local governments is becoming increasingly important, so I ask all departments to take interest and work together.”
