Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that Mayor Lee Sang-il, who marked his 2nd anniversary in office, held communication meetings with residents in Jukjeon 3-dong and Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, on the afternoon of the 1st to discuss local issues.

At the meeting, Mayor Lee provided detailed explanations about the progress of the Gogi Bridge expansion project in the Dongcheon-dong area. This area experienced massive flooding due to heavy rain in August 2022, shortly after Mayor Lee took office.

Mayor Lee said, "I have visited the Gogi Bridge area four times to prepare for last year's heavy rain, carrying out river dredging and installing flood barriers, so this place holds a special place in my heart." He added, "This year as well, to prepare for heavy rain, we raised the safety rating of Gogi Bridge and installed a pedestrian walkway for safety." He further explained, "Since the existing bridge must be used until the new four-lane bridge is rebuilt by the end of 2026, there will be sunk costs, but these reinforcement measures were taken for the safety of citizens."

Earlier, Gyeonggi Province announced the basic river plan for Dongmakcheon Stream on April 22 to reconstruct Gogi Bridge. The city plans to complete supplementary designs necessary for the reconstruction, coordinate with Seongnam City to finalize changes in facility decisions and approvals, and then proceed with compensation and construction starting next year.

At the meeting with residents of Jukjeon 3-dong, Mayor Lee also addressed residents' suggestions regarding the construction of an administrative welfare center, expansion of public transportation networks, and repaving of village roads. Jukjeon 3-dong, which was separated from Jukjeon 1-dong in 2021, currently provides civil services in a rental building and lacks cultural and sports facilities. Mayor Lee said, "The construction of the Jukjeon 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center passed the Gyeonggi Provincial Local Finance Investment Review in June, and only the city’s administrative procedures remain. We will ensure that the groundbreaking planned for the second half of 2026 proceeds without any setbacks."

Mayor Lee stated, "Over the past two years, we have achieved many accomplishments through the promotion of large-scale projects to lead the city's development and the resolution of various challenges. I have worked with the determination to repay the citizens who elected me with results and achievements, and I will continue to maintain my original commitment."
