HJ Heavy Industries Wins Contract for Installation of 34 Domestic Cranes at Busan New Port... Worth 187 Billion KRW

New Orders Totaling 1.6 Trillion KRW in the First Half of This Year

HJ Heavy Industries Construction Division announced on the 2nd that it has won the contract for the "Busan New Port West Container Terminal Phase 2-6 Transfer Crane Manufacturing and Installation Project" commissioned by the Busan Port Authority.

This Phase 2-6 project is a follow-up to the Busan New Port Pier 7 (Phases 2-5), which opened in April as the first fully automated dock in Korea. HJ Heavy Industries also participated in the Phase 2-5 project, carrying out construction work and installing transfer cranes. In the Phase 2-6 project, 34 transfer cranes will be manufactured and installed. The contract amount is 187 billion KRW, and the construction period is 36 months.

Transfer cranes are equipment used to stack containers in the yard or to load stacked containers onto unmanned guided vehicles (AGVs) and external trailers.

This marks the return of domestically produced container cranes to Busan Port after more than 20 years. Until the early 2000s, Korean-made port cranes stood out in the global market and secured orders from various countries. However, in the mid-2000s, they were pushed out by cheaper Chinese products, leading to the cessation of production after 2006. As the Busan Port Authority promoted the Phase 2-5 project, it decided to introduce domestic cranes to activate related domestic industries and secure automation-related technologies while preventing overseas information leakage.

Meanwhile, HJ Heavy Industries Construction Division recorded new orders totaling 1.6 trillion KRW in the first half of this year, surpassing last year's total construction division orders of about 1.5 trillion KRW. In particular, it consecutively secured major projects across all fields including architecture, civil engineering, and plants such as the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) Line B and Saemangeum International Airport, achieving first place in public construction orders in the first half of the year. Additionally, it has maintained a growth rate of over 20% annually in recent years by focusing on stable redevelopment and reconstruction projects in urban renewal projects.

An HJ Heavy Industries official stated, "Despite the downturn in the construction market, our order performance has dramatically increased compared to last year as a result of actively engaging in bidding by leveraging our expertise in specialized fields," and added, "We will continue to establish a stable growth foundation through profitable and high-quality orders in the second half of the year."
