LS Cable & System is supplying submarine cables to the western United States for the first time. The company is actively expanding its business by strengthening cooperation with local transmission network companies to secure additional orders and promoting localization of production in the US, UK, and Vietnam through its subsidiaries.

LS Cable & System announced on the 2nd that it has signed a contract worth 100 billion KRW with LS Power Grid California, a US transmission network operator.

The company expects to further strengthen its position in the US market following the contract.

The cables will be installed in the Sacramento River in northern California. They will be used to transmit electricity from the Pacific Northwest, including Oregon, to California. This is part of a project to stabilize the power grid in the western region.

California plans to invest approximately 6.1 billion USD (about 8.4 trillion KRW) by 2035 to build 26 new transmission networks and more than 85 GW (gigawatts) of renewable energy.

An LS Cable & System official said, "We will expand the market by strengthening cooperation with our clients in line with California's large-scale renewable energy transmission network construction plan."

The US submarine cable market is expected to continue growing due to the replacement of aging cables, development of renewable energy, and increased power demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and the expansion of electric vehicles.
