Park Jun-hee, the mayor of Gwanak-gu who has reached the midpoint of his 8th term, marked his 2nd anniversary in office not with a commemorative event but by visiting various local sites, ensuring safety and listening closely to the residents' vivid voices.

On July 1st, Mayor Park began his first task of the 3rd year of his 8th term by visiting the Guam Police Substation, responsible for the safety of the district’s residents, where he expressed his gratitude and encouragement. He also walked through Hyundai Market and Bongridan-gil, making eye contact and greeting merchants and residents directly.

In the morning, Mayor Park participated together with Gwanak-gu office staff in the ‘Gwanak Golden Bell’ quiz event, solving quizzes about Gwanak and communicating with the staff, while also appreciating their hard work.

Mayor Park said that although the past two years were eventful, thanks to the dedication of Gwanak-gu office employees working hard for the district’s development and the happiness of its 500,000 residents, they were able to wisely overcome crises. He repeatedly emphasized that the great achievements in various fields were not the result of individual effort but a proud outcome created by all of them together.

He then visited the Sillim Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and personally participated in meal service for the elderly. Serving warm meals directly to the seniors, he promised to continue his best efforts as a filial mayor to ensure that the elderly can enjoy a happier and more fulfilling later life, listening attentively to each senior’s voice.

Mayor Park brought a wave of innovation to Gwanak through the ‘Gwanak S Valley,’ a key initiative during the 7th and 8th terms. Based on the excellent local infrastructure and capabilities represented by ‘youth’ and ‘Seoul National University,’ he established a self-sustaining startup ecosystem, strengthened the capabilities and support for startups, and created ‘Gwanak S Valley,’ where young people can settle, work, and start businesses in the area.

In the afternoon, he attended the ‘3rd Gwanak S Valley Startup Scale-up × Demo Day’ event held at the Sillim Venture Startup Center, expressing his sincere commitment to supporting promising local startups to grow into global unicorn companies.

Mayor Park also did not neglect to check on residents’ safety. He patrolled the Gwanaksan forest trails together with forest safety guards and personally inspected the intelligent CCTV systems, which were expanded this year, to ensure there were no issues.

He also visited the construction site of the ‘Gwanaksan Sillim Valley District Water Playground,’ scheduled to open in mid-July, emphasizing safety by saying, “Safety is the top priority above all else. I ask for special attention to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs until the construction is completed,” stressing the safety of workers and residents on site.

Mayor Park personally visited the construction site of the Starlight Raincheon specialized healing space, a representative healing area of the district, and the Seoul National University main gate detention basin, urging thorough preparedness for disaster situations to create a safe and happy Gwanak-gu for all.

Mayor Park’s on-site activities continued into the evening. He visited Shinwon Market directly, greeting and encouraging merchants who are doing their best amid difficult economic conditions, and purchased food items himself.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Looking back on the past six years of running at a breathless pace to create results that residents can feel, it has been by no means an easy journey. Meeting residents at various sites, I have done my best to discover policies that can make residents happy,” adding, “In the remaining two years, I will continue to communicate and empathize directly with residents and operate the district administration with the happiness of residents as the top priority.”
