60s Male Driver Crashes Vehicle onto Sidewalk

At around 9:27 PM on the 1st, a vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk at an intersection near Seoul City Hall Station.

The accident resulted in a total of 9 deaths and 4 injuries. Among the 9 deceased, 6 died at the scene, and 3 were transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but were later pronounced dead. The police and fire authorities plan to contact the families of the 6 deceased as soon as their identities are confirmed.

The police apprehended a male driver in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, who was driving a Genesis vehicle at the scene. The man reportedly claims that the vehicle experienced sudden unintended acceleration.

Mr. A was conscious at the time of the accident and has been confirmed to have been transported to the hospital. According to the fire authorities, it has not been confirmed whether Mr. A was under the influence of alcohol.

The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident.
