Unidentified Smoke at Heukseok Station Platform
Line 9 Trains Pass Without Stopping Due to Smoke on Both Directions
On July 1st, the first day of the month, a fire at a subway station caused inconvenience for passengers using Line 3 during their morning commute, and concerns are rising about potential confusion for Line 9 passengers during the evening rush hour.
According to Seoul Metro, around 4:42 PM on the 1st, smoke of unknown origin was detected on the platform of Heukseok Station on Seoul Subway Line 9. As of 5:20 PM, all trains on both the up and down lines are passing through without stopping. After the smoke was detected, Seoul Metro allowed trains on both directions at Heukseok Station to pass without stopping and also closed all four subway exits.
Seoul Metro urged passengers to use alternative public transportation while they investigate the exact cause.
Earlier that day, a fire broke out on a maintenance motor car near Daechi Station on Line 3, disrupting train operations. Many passengers experienced inconvenience during both the morning and evening commutes due to subway fires.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the Line 9 incident. The fire department, after completing smoke ventilation operations, withdrew around 5:57 PM, leaving essential personnel on site. Train operations returned to normal around 7:43 PM, approximately three hours after the smoke was detected.
