Earlier, the Personal Information Protection Commission launched an investigation into the personal information collection procedures and usage practices of Chinese e-commerce companies such as AliExpress and Temu following concerns about potential personal information leaks.

Chairman Ko said, "A practical difficulty encountered at the final stage of the investigation was understanding the scale of the companies' operations," adding, "Especially Temu has a short history of conducting business in Korea and has rapidly grown, so there were not many business-related records." He also acknowledged that public concern is growing over the fact that AliExpress and Temu store the personal information of domestic users overseas.

He also mentioned that the disposition related to Kakao, which was fined approximately 15.1 billion KRW in May for negligence in inspecting and protecting user information, is ongoing. Chairman Ko stated, "Kakao still has not reported the data breach," and added, "Once the final disposition document is completed and delivered, legal procedures will proceed."
