Kia Sales of 267,000 Units in June... 3.9% Decrease YoY

Domestic Sales Down 13.7%... Impact of Reduced Operating Days

Kia sold approximately 270,000 units worldwide in June this year. Domestic sales declined by double digits due to a decrease in operating days.

On the 1st, Kia announced that it sold 267,536 units (wholesale basis) last month, down 3.9% compared to the same month last year. The best-selling vehicle worldwide was the Sportage (48,920 units). This was followed by the Seltos (27,223 units) and Sorento (23,658 units).

By region, domestic sales totaled 44,003 units, a 13.7% decrease compared to the same month last year. Passenger cars showed a notable sales decline of 34.1% year-on-year, contrasting with recreational vehicles (RVs), which only decreased by 2.1%.

The best-selling vehicle domestically was the Carnival, with sales increasing 27.4% year-on-year to 8,097 units. Sales also rose for the Sorento (7,307 units, +4.7%), Seltos (5,399 units, +3.3%), and EV6 (1,430 units, +3.7%). However, the Sportage (-9.4%), Niro (-39.0%), and Mohave (-43.5%) experienced declines.

Overseas sales reached 223,033 units, down 1.7% compared to the same month last year. The Sportage was the top-selling model overseas with 43,105 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 21,824 units and the K3 (Forte) with 20,315 units.

A Kia official explained, "In the domestic market, the decrease in operating days and the waiting customers for the K8 facelift model led to a decline in passenger car sales compared to last year, but we expect a slight increase in market share through steady RV sales. In overseas markets, sales of small cars such as the Morning and Rio declined due to electrification conversion work at the Gwangmyeong plant, but we anticipate improved sales performance in the second half of the year with the start of EV3 mass production at the Gwangmyeong plant."
