2nd Anniversary of the 8th Elected Administration on the 1st ... "The Third Year is for Reflection" · "Function, Innovation, Quality of Life"
"For the remaining two years, I promise first and foremost to do my best as a hardworking county governor with principles and convictions, rather than simply aiming to be a successful one."
On July 1, Oh Taewan, the governor of Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam, read a letter addressed to the residents of Uiryeong in commemoration of the second anniversary of the 8th popularly elected term, during the regular monthly staff meeting held at the county office's main conference room.
Governor Oh stated, "When I was elected in the by-election, I promised to become the relief pitcher who would save Uiryeong. Over the past two years of the 8th term, I have been acting as a 'table setter' to create opportunities for Uiryeong's future development and have been steadily advancing 'policy implementation' to prepare for a new Uiryeong step by step."
Previously, during the 7th term, Governor Lee Seondu of Uiryeong County was arrested for violating the Political Funds Act, resulting in the county being managed by the deputy governor as acting governor until Oh Taewan was elected in the by-election.
Governor Oh evaluated, "Uiryeong County received an A grade, an excellent rating, for two consecutive years in the 'National Basic Local Government Head Pledge Fulfillment Evaluation' during the 8th term. Various surveys also show that happiness and 'quality of life' are the highest among all."
On this day, Governor Oh compared the past two years of the 8th term to 'joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure.' Joy was the confirmation of the four-lane expansion project for National Road No. 20; anger was the failure to pass the supplementary budget for livelihood support; sorrow was the historic first 4.26 Memorial Ceremony; and pleasure was attracting a record 170,000 tourists to the Richirichi Festival, which drew attention.
Governor Oh expressed his determination that, for the remaining two years of the 8th term, he would steadfastly pursue county administration with the attitude of 'seeing the big picture while paying attention to the details,' following the principle of 'Daegwan Sochal.'
He announced plans to push forward large-scale investment projects that will lay the foundation for Uiryeong's next 50 years of development, such as the opening of the expressway era in Uiryeong-eup, the creation of the Seodong Complex Administrative Town, the construction of specialized public housing for jobs in Dongdong, and the completion of the Burim Industrial Complex. He also expressed his intention to implement projects to improve the quality of life for residents and support the socially disadvantaged, including a robust allowance for families with two children, the Love Sharing Laundry Room, the Small School Revitalization Project, and the establishment of Smart Senior Centers.

Additionally, Governor Oh reiterated his commitment to make Uiryeong the center of Gyeongnam by focusing on the spirit of loyalty (Chung), for which Uiryeong has long been renowned.
He also stated, "Going forward, Uiryeong will transform from being the geographical center of Gyeongnam to the functional and innovative center, enhancing the quality of life. In the latter half of the 8th term, Uiryeong will showcase 'definite change' at the heart of Gyeongnam."
Finally, Governor Oh mentioned, in order, Jeon Eunsuk, the Gungnyu Post Office telephone operator who, even after being shot during the Gungnyu shooting incident, connected the phone line for the residents; Jeon Suak, who abandoned her shopping bag to save a drowning child but could not escape from the blue waters of Ungokcheon herself; and Gong Doyeon, the 'King of Volunteering' for 50 years who donated her body after passing away. He said, "This is Uiryeong, where true righteous people who are willing to give even their lives for others reside. With courage and dedication, I will make Uiryeong an even better place to live."
Meanwhile, before the regular meeting, Governor Oh Taewan, Deputy Governor Choi Jinhoe, and senior officials paid their respects at the Memorial Tower and Chungiksa, marking the new beginning of the third year of the 8th term.
