Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 1st that it has signed a construction contract for four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with a shipowner in the Middle East. The contract amount is 1.4381 trillion KRW. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner by August 2028.
Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for 22 vessels so far this year. By ship type, there are 19 LNG carriers, 2 very large ammonia carriers (VLAC), and 1 shuttle tanker.
The cumulative order amount is 4.9 billion USD (approximately 6.7678 trillion KRW), achieving 51% of this year's order target of 9.7 billion USD. The order backlog stands at 33.7 billion USD.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, "We will do our best to achieve our order targets by leveraging our technological competitiveness in various projects such as gas carriers and offshore facilities, which are expected to be ordered in the second half of the year. Based on a solid order backlog, we plan to continue selective ordering focused on profitability."
