Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated on the 1st, "Following the designation of Daejeon as an Opportunity Development Zone, the designation as a Bio-specialized Complex has paved the way for a groundbreaking advancement in the bio industry."

During a press conference held that morning after an official business trip to the United States and Canada, Mayor Lee said, "It was not an exaggeration to say that within 10 years, Daejeon will dominate South Korea's bio industry."

He continued, "The combination of the Opportunity Development Zone and the Bio-specialized Complex now allows for tax benefits and full support for relocating companies," emphasizing, "In addition to the four major strategic industries, we will add quantum and robotics sectors to promote six major strategic industries."

Mayor Lee noted, "Montgomery County in the United States is a bio-industry city housing the National Food and Drug Administration (FDA)," and added, "We will actively pursue the establishment of a Daejeon office to support Daejeon's bio companies' entry into the U.S. market."

Regarding the bio sector relationship with Osong, Chungbuk, the mayor stated, "Rather than a competitive relationship, we will build a cooperative relationship to create synergy between Osong, which hosts the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and Daejeon, which concentrates research functions."
