'Thinking Only of Yeongju, Only of the Citizens'

Visiting Key Project Sites and Livelihood Locations

On July 1, Park Namseo, Mayor of Yeongju, visited key sites and local communities to listen to the voices of citizens as he marked the second anniversary of his term, having passed the halfway point of the 8th popularly elected administration.

This visit was organized to reflect on the past two years, to recall the original intentions he had upon taking office as Mayor of Yeongju, and to better incorporate the voices of citizens into city administration by closely observing their daily lives with a humble attitude.

During the July monthly staff meeting, Mayor Park delivered a commemorative speech reflecting on the past two years, stating, "The second anniversary of the 8th popularly elected administration marks a milestone for Yeongju and has been a time of relentless efforts for regional development," and added, "I hope all public officials will work even harder so that Yeongju's administration can fully take off and produce concrete results."

He then visited the Yeongju Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to participate in meal service volunteer work and checked on any inconveniences experienced by the center and the elderly.

In the afternoon, he continued his communication efforts with visits to Galsan-ri in Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju Senior Club, the Hope Tree Village Care Center, and the Novelis Korea Yeongju Plant.

First, he visited Galsan-ri in Jangsu-myeon, where casualties occurred due to last year's heavy rains, to inspect the status of recovery efforts. He then visited Buyong Senior Center and personally demonstrated the "House-to-House System," which allows residents to receive disaster information at home, providing detailed guidance on precautions for the rainy season.

At Yeongju Senior Club, he checked the progress of senior employment and social activity programs to ensure there are no welfare blind spots. He repeatedly urged the elderly to pay close attention to their health and safety during the summer heatwave.

At the Hope Tree Village Care Center, he sang children's songs and participated in gestures and movements with the children, engaging with them at their level and having open conversations. He also listened to the voices of on-site teachers and explored ways to overcome low birth rates by strengthening social care.

During his visit to the Novelis Yeongju Plant, he held a discussion session on the theme "Yeongju, a city where young workers want to live," and discussed ways for mutual growth between the region and the company.

A young worker who settled in Yeongju after finding employment there said, "In the six years I've lived here, I've found Yeongju to be a warm and beautiful city. However, high rent and housing prices are the biggest obstacles for young people trying to settle down," and requested measures to stabilize housing costs.

On this day, Mayor Park also toured the production site with the Novelis Korea management team, urged the creation of a safe working environment, and discussed strategies for mutual development between the region and the company.

Mayor Park Namseo stated, "I would like to express my gratitude to all citizens who have been part of every journey toward making Yeongju a city where citizens are happy over the past two years," and emphasized, "For Yeongju, for our citizens, and for the future, I will continue to address local issues, open doors to future dreams, and work tirelessly to enhance citizen happiness in the second half of my term."
