Dong-Eui Institute of Technology Successfully Concludes 'Major Subject Mentoring Contest'

Senior Students Mentor Juniors in Learning... Helping with College Adjustment

The Center for Teaching and Learning Development at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo, Director Jo Chaeyoung) recently concluded the '2024 First Semester Major Subject Mentoring Contest' held at the university's Industry-Academia Building Active Learning Room.

This competition served as a review of the achievements from the first semester's major subject mentoring program, recognizing outstanding students with awards and providing an opportunity for information exchange and communication for the future development of the program.

The major subject mentoring program is designed to strengthen academic capabilities by connecting upperclassmen or peers with excellent academic performance and communication skills as mentors to juniors or peers who need support as mentees. The program aims to provide psychological and emotional support, help students adapt smoothly to university life, assist in learning challenging subjects, and foster interest in studying.

As a result of the public presentation evaluation, Lee Semin from the Department of Early Childhood Education received the Grand Prize, with one student awarded Gold, four students awarded Silver, and five students awarded Bronze.

Lee Semin, the Grand Prize winner, said, "While working as a mentor, I put a lot of thought and effort into providing effective learning support to my mentees. After much consideration and various attempts, I was able to grow and develop together with my mentees by applying professors' teaching methods."

Director Jo Chaeyoung of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development stated, "The major subject mentoring contest was an opportunity to witness the diverse learning know-how and both internal and external growth of participating students. The Center for Teaching and Learning Development will continue to do its best to enhance students' interest in learning and academic achievement."

Since 2004, the Center for Teaching and Learning Development at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology has been offering a variety of programs and special lectures to support students' academic success, including mentoring programs, experiential learning in the local community, and JUMP-UP for students on academic probation.
