EcoBio Holdings, an eco-friendly and ESG specialized company led by CEO Song Hyo-sun, announced on the 28th of last month that it has signed an agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to extend the existing project period by 10 years for the production and refueling business of clean hydrogen using biogas generated at the Seonam Water Reclamation Center.
In April, EcoBio was selected by the Ministry of Environment as the operator of the "Biogas-based Clean Hydrogen Production Facility (Private)" project, and installed an additional clean hydrogen production and supply facility with a capacity of 500 kg, capable of supplying fuel to more than 100 hydrogen vehicles per day, near the Magok Eco Hydrogen Refueling Station currently operated by the company. The project received approximately 6.3 billion KRW in national funding, with a total investment of 12.7 billion KRW.
Following the activation of the hydrogen economy and carbon neutrality policies, EcoBio is promoting an on-site vehicle fuel business that produces clean hydrogen by reforming biogas generated during the sewage treatment process in the southwestern region of Seoul. Using its proprietary water absorption method (Simplex Process), the company converts the purified biomethane through a Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) to produce clean hydrogen, which is then used to refuel hydrogen vehicles.
Kim Young-min, Vice President of EcoBio Holdings, stated, "Through this extension agreement, we expect various benefits such as the use of renewable energy, improvement of the surrounding environment, carbon neutrality through the reduction of methane, a greenhouse gas, and sustainable technology development by producing clean hydrogen from biogas instead of fossil fuel-based hydrogen for refueling hydrogen vehicles." He added, "We have established business conditions to stably produce and supply economically viable clean hydrogen, and through active promotion, expansion of similar projects domestically will be possible."
