Cheonan City Provides 1.2 Million Won Voucher for Children from Multichild Families Upon School Admission

Payment of 1.2 million KRW for 1 child, 2.4 million KRW for 2 children, 3.6 million KRW for 3 children

Cheonan City in Chungnam Province has become the first in the province to provide vouchers worth 1.2 million KRW when children from multi-child families enter elementary, middle, or high school.

The "Premium Happiness Voucher Support Project" is a program aimed at creating a social atmosphere that favors multi-child families and reducing their economic burden by providing 1.2 million KRW to children entering elementary, middle, or high school.

If one child enters school in the same year, 1.2 million KRW is provided; if two children, 2.4 million KRW; and if three children, 3.6 million KRW, with vouchers given according to the number of children entering school.

The eligibility criteria require that as of the application date, both the father or mother and the eligible children must have been registered residents living together in Cheonan City for more than six months, and the family must have four or more children.

This year, the eligible ages for elementary, middle, and high school entry are 7 years old (born in 2017), 13 years old (born in 2011), and 16 years old (born in 2008). Applications can be submitted by the father or mother of the eligible children by visiting the administrative welfare center at their registered address by December 31.

The vouchers are provided via the Cheonan Sarang Card (local currency) and can be used to purchase child-rearing related items such as academy fees, bookstores, learning supplies, toys, and clothing within the region. The usage period is one year from the date the voucher is issued.

A Cheonan City official stated, "To overcome the ultra-low birthrate, social preferential policies for multi-child families who have already given birth and are raising children can also act as birth promotion measures," adding, "We plan to expand the program to families with three or more children in consideration of future financial conditions."
