Presidential Office Holds Security Situation Review Meeting Following North Korea's Ballistic Missile Launch

The Presidential Office held a security situation review meeting on the 1st in response to North Korea's ballistic missile launch to check the military readiness and other measures.

According to the Presidential Office, In Seong-hwan, the 2nd Deputy Director of the National Security Office, presided over the security situation review meeting at 6:40 a.m. that day and discussed North Korea's provocation situation and response plans.

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that they detected two ballistic missiles launched northeastward around 5:05 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. from the Jangyeon area in Hwanghae Province.

The North Korean short-range ballistic missile launched at 5:05 a.m. flew about 600 km, and the ballistic missile launched at 5:15 a.m. flew about 120 km, according to investigations.

North Korea's ballistic missile provocation came five days after launching one ballistic missile eastward from the Pyongyang area on the 26th of last month.

It is analyzed that North Korea's provocation on this day was a retaliation against the first trilateral multi-domain joint exercise 'Freedom Edge' conducted by South Korea, the U.S., and Japan over three days starting from the 27th of last month.
