CJ Freshway Publishes '2023 ESG Report' Detailing Sustainable Management Strategies and Achievements

Disclosure of Major ESG Achievements Last Year Including Strengthening Human Rights Management Execution System

CJ Freshway announced on the 1st that it has published the ‘2023 ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Report,’ which contains its sustainable management strategies and achievements. This is the third ESG report published by CJ Freshway since 2022.

Through this report, CJ Freshway disclosed the major activities and achievements of 2023 according to its three key ESG strategic directions: ▲eco-friendly distribution environment ▲healthy food culture ▲a society growing together. The report also emphasized efforts to respond to climate change through the establishment and announcement of biodiversity protection policies, sustainable purchasing guidelines, and community engagement policies, as well as strengthening the human rights management execution system.

Additionally, the report included recognized achievements from external organizations regarding ESG management activities practiced in various areas such as resource circulation, food safety, and DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion). Representative examples include commendations for excellence in household waste management (Ministry of Environment), certification of outstanding safety management laboratories (Ministry of Science and ICT), and selection as an excellent employer for disabled employment (Ministry of Employment and Labor).

This year, CJ Freshway also conducted a ‘Double Materiality’ assessment considering both financial impacts and social/environmental impacts, and explained the main policies and strategic activities related to six newly selected ESG material issues in the report. In particular, high-priority material issues such as food safety and customer satisfaction were covered in detail through the report’s ‘ESG Highlights’ content. ESG indicators related to business status amid accelerated digital transformation and information security management were also introduced.

CJ Freshway’s ESG report was prepared in accordance with global standards such as the international sustainable management reporting guideline ‘GRI 2021’ and enhanced accuracy and reliability through third-party verification by an independent institution. The report is available in both Korean and English on the ‘Sustainable Management’ page of CJ Freshway’s official website.

Jeon Eun-sook, Chairperson of CJ Freshway’s ESG Committee, stated, “Through the annual publication of the report, we review the achievements of ESG management activities practiced throughout the year and actively communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Going forward, we will continue to advance the sustainable management system focusing on ESG material issues and expand the role of the ESG Committee under the board of directors to lead the creation of a healthy food culture and a sustainable distribution environment.”
