Seoul district mayors have arranged schedules to enter historical sites and mingle with residents to ensure they do not forget their initial intentions.


In particular, this time the district mayors organized forums, showing movements to build consensus on future regional development plans, attracting attention.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) embarked on a special communication initiative on the first day of the 3rd year of the 8th term.


On the morning of the 1st, the first day marking the 3rd year of the 8th term, Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi and Jungnang-gu office staff visited Mangwoo History and Culture Park at 7 a.m. to pay respects at the graves of independence activist Yu Gwan-sun, Buddhist monk Manhae Han Yong-un, and educator Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan. Marking the halfway point of the 8th term, they honored the noble spirits of these national heroes who sacrificed for the country and the nation, and pledged to inherit their will to create a better Jungnang-gu.


Following this, during the regular staff assembly, employees who have actively worked to resolve residents' inconveniences and promote the development of Jungnang-gu were commended. On the morning of the 2nd, at the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center, the control tower for education, a meeting with teachers, parents, and students was held to share the achievements of educational development so far. The 'Jungnang Education Development Town Hall Meeting' was held to discuss future educational development plans for Jungnang-gu, along with the 'Sustainable Development Vision Declaration Ceremony' for a Jungnang where present and future, people and nature coexist. The Sustainable Development Vision Declaration Ceremony, held in the underground auditorium of Jungnang-gu Office that afternoon, aimed to preserve the environment of Jungnang for future generations and improve the quality of life for residents under the vision of 'Jungnang where present and future, people and nature coexist.' The ceremony included the award ceremony for the Jungnang-type ESG Practice Excellence Contest, screening of the progress and vision video of Jungnang-gu's sustainable development, reading of the Sustainable Development Vision Declaration, and a vision proclamation performance.


Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said, "It feels like just yesterday that the 8th term began, but we have already passed the 2-year halfway point. Over the past six years, I have believed that the field comes first and that the answer lies in the field. I have been with the residents and on-site, spending precious time feeling communication, value, and fulfillment." He added, "I will focus on making Jungnang-gu a place where children are happy and elders are respected, an educational city that cultivates future competitiveness, prompt and certain residential environment improvements, and a vibrant economic Jungnang."

On the morning of the 1st, Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, opened the first day of the second half of the 8th term by cleaning the street at Inwang Market Road, a side street in the area. Starting at 6 a.m., Mayor Lee, along with about 10 environmental officers, swept leaves and trash along a 200-meter section of the street, which are the main causes of drainage blockage during the rainy season. Two years ago, on the first day of the 8th term, Mayor Lee also cleaned the same area at dawn and has since consistently participated in the monthly 'Clean Day Cleaning Events.'


During lunchtime, Mayor Lee volunteered serving meals at the district office cafeteria, and in the afternoon, he planned to visit 'Cafe Waterfall,' a global healing spot visited by people worldwide since its opening last April, to experience being a barista. Additionally, Mayor Lee attended the monthly assembly at the district office auditorium to share the achievements of the first half of the 8th term and the vision for the second half with staff. He also visited the Seodaemun-gu Childcare Support Center to hold a meeting with workers and listen to their opinions.


Furthermore, during the first week of the second half of the 8th term, Mayor Lee will hold meetings with staff from 14 community centers and discussions on lifelong education projects linked with nine local universities. He will also inspect housing redevelopment demolition sites, rockfall prevention net installation sites, and the walking course for the Ieum-gil Walking Festival. He will personally participate in volunteer activities to improve the residential environment of vulnerable households, including wallpaper and flooring replacement.


Seodaemun-gu is starting the second half of the 8th term by emphasizing 'field-centered administration' and 'communication with staff,' foregoing separate commemorative ceremonies. Mayor Lee said, "With a practical and realistic attitude that does not lose the initial intention from two years ago, I will listen to the voices from the field and promote touching administration more closely connected to daily life, continuously creating substantial changes for '100% resident happiness.'"

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, embarked on a 'communication walk with residents' on the first day of the 3rd year of the 8th term.


At 11 a.m., he visited Down Church in Hapjeong-dong, the site of the 'Filial Piety Meal' program, which was selected as the number one policy among the top ten policies chosen by Mapo residents. He expressed gratitude and respect to the elders who dedicated and sacrificed to make present-day Korea possible.

He also did not forget to encourage the volunteers and others involved, the unsung heroes behind the Filial Piety Meal program.


At 2 p.m., he visited the Gongdeok Silppuri Welfare Center, which aims to realize meticulous welfare permeating all residents' lives, toured the facility, and listened to users' opinions.


Mayor Park Gang-su said, "Now that the 2nd anniversary of the 8th term has arrived and the 3rd year has begun, I have once again resolved not to lose the initial intention and to endlessly advance toward the 'Era of Happiness for Mapo Residents.'" He added, "I will continue to do my best to create a better Mapo by running directly on the ground with the belief that the answer lies in the field and by listening to residents' voices."

Meanwhile, Mayor Park did not neglect communication with staff. At the start of the workday, he prepared a 'Coffee Truck of Love' for the staff who have vigorously led the 8th term for two years, and during lunch, he held a communication meeting on district administration with executives and employees of affiliated organizations.

On the morning of the 1st, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, set up a food truck in front of the district office plaza to encourage staff.


Mayor Lee personally handed out snacks and drinks, expressing gratitude to the staff who have worked together to create a 'pleasant and safe Dongdaemun-gu' over the past two years of the 8th term.

The staff presented the mayor with hiking boots, symbolizing their wish for him to work even harder for Dongdaemun-gu during the remaining term.


Along with snacks, the district distributed 'Integrity Notices' containing information on the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, and methods to prevent and report power abuse, conducting an 'Integrity Campaign' urging efforts to foster a clean organizational culture.


Especially, the mayor and staff held placards expressing their commitment to integrity and shouted "Integrity, Dongdaemun!" pledging to eradicate corruption and promote transparent administration.

Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, "Thanks to the staff who have devoted their passion over the past two years, we were able to lead new changes in Dongdaemun-gu." He urged, "Let's continue to work to make Dongdaemun-gu pleasant, safe, and transparent."

Meanwhile, that afternoon, Mayor Lee visited Samyook Seoul Hospital (82 Mangwoo-ro, Dongdaemun-gu) to encourage medical staff and requested their continued efforts for residents' health despite difficult circumstances.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, praised the efforts of staff over the two years of the 8th term via email on the morning of the 1st and promised to foster a vibrant organizational culture.


On the 2nd, he plans to visit visiting nurses in Gwangjang-dong and vulnerable groups to deliver side dishes. On the same day, he will hold an on-site communication session with 30 young people under the theme 'What Young People Want from Gwangjin-gu' in Hwacheong-dong.

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) will hold the 'Dongjak Residents Roundtable Policy Forum' at 2 p.m. on the 1st in the district office auditorium to share achievements of the first half and explore development directions for the second half.


This forum was organized to gather creative and novel policy ideas from diverse residents across all sectors and to implement effective projects to complete the 'Best Value City Dongjak.' Participants were selected considering localities and generations, including parents, youth, elders, small business owners, cultural artists, and athletes from 15 neighborhoods. The forum consists of 17 roundtables, each with up to 10 participants, where one policy is developed per table based on assigned topics. The discussion topics include nine major areas: balanced city, welfare (children, youth, elders), education, economy, culture, living, safety, and others.


The 17 policies agreed upon at each roundtable will undergo a sympathy vote to select the top 10 priority policies. The proposed policies will be reviewed for feasibility by relevant departments and experts and promoted as new policies. Mayor Park Il-ha said, "I hope the forum will be an opportunity to deeply discuss the future development direction of the district," adding, "We will transform the map of all fields such as city, welfare, living, and economy to realize 'Best Value City, Dongjak,' which residents can be proud of."

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, announced that on the afternoon of the 2nd at 2 p.m., he will hold the 'Yeongdeungpo-gu Current Issues Resident Briefing' at the Yeongdeungpo Art Hall auditorium to mark the 2nd anniversary halfway point of the 8th term.


At this briefing, Mayor Choi will meet directly with exemplary residents and groups who have contributed to resident harmony and district development, explain major issues by sector, and outline the blueprint for 'Young City Yeongdeungpo.' The briefing will introduce projects in various fields, including a safe and pleasant 'residential city,' a vibrant 'economic city,' a hopeful 'future education city,' a rich 'cultural city,' a happy 'welfare city,' and 'public infrastructure expansion' created together with residents.


First, the district will discuss projects being rapidly promoted to shed the old and worn image of the old downtown and become a 'luxury residential city where anyone wants to live.' These include the operation of a redevelopment and reconstruction consultation center, public housing maintenance projects in slum areas, and relaxation of commercial area mixed-use building commercial space ratios.


Additionally, the district will explain plans for the development of semi-industrial areas, such as establishing a master plan for the undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line railway, increasing the floor area ratio for apartment complexes in semi-industrial areas to 400%, and attracting the relocation of the Mullae-dong industrial complex and the 4th industrial revolution. Projects to support youth independence and revitalize the local economy to add vitality to the city will also be shared.


The briefing will also discuss the launch of the 'Future Education Foundation,' the control tower of district education policy, and projects to nurture future scientific creative talents, such as the Warm Companion Education Neulpureum School and Science Culture Vouchers, as well as the Twin Generation customized space Sairo Library, envisioning Yeongdeungpo as a future education city.


In particular, the district will introduce the 'Mullae-dong Flower Garden,' the first milestone toward the 'Garden City, Flower City Yeongdeungpo' declared last May, and explain the four strategies to move toward 'Yeongdeungpo where pollen flies instead of iron powder.' It will also share the status and future plans for the construction of the 'Yeongdeungpo Mullae Art Center,' a public facility to be built on the site next to the Mullae-dong Flower Garden, previewing a cultural and leisure hub where classical music flows like a river.


Furthermore, the briefing will present projects such as 'Life Cycle Welfare Projects' that accompany residents from start to finish, 'Disability Support Projects' respecting differences, and 'Veterans Culture Expansion Projects' that remember heroes, as well as 'Public Infrastructure Expansion Projects' that balance regions and provide resident-friendly open spaces. Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, "I thank all residents who have worked together for Yeongdeungpo's youthful changes over the past two years," adding, "We will continue to prioritize communication, meet residents eye to eye, listen to their voices, and create a young city Yeongdeungpo together with residents."
