The Sandong Drainage Pump Station suffered damage to the trash rack (floating debris removal device) and retention basin due to the overflow of Nonsancheon River caused by concentrated heavy rains in July last year, but restoration work has been completed in preparation for this year’s rainy season.

On this day, Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, emphasized, "Please conduct thorough pre-inspections not only on the drainage station’s facility conditions, operating personnel, and emergency response plans but also on even minor details to ensure that no flooding damage occurs to crops and other assets due to concentrated summer rains. Actively and proactively respond so that the loss of life and property can be minimized."

Lee Sangmin, Minister of the Interior and Safety, received reports from Chungnam Province and the Korea Rural Community Corporation on safety management measures for disaster restoration sites and the operation plan for the Sandong Drainage Pump Station, and urged related agencies to "continuously monitor and inspect to eliminate risk factors in advance in preparation for concentrated summer rains, and minimize casualties through preemptive evacuation when weather warnings are issued."

The government plans to continue thoroughly implementing risk factor elimination through continuous monitoring and inspection, and emergency duty systems during weather warnings to minimize casualties and property damage caused by concentrated summer rains. It will also strengthen cooperation among related agencies and swiftly take action and respond by mobilizing all available resources in the event of a disaster.
