Real-time Floating Population, Congestion, and Route Analysis
Utilized for Disaster Response and Commercial Area Marketing
IoT (Internet of Things) will be applied to Yongin Jungang Market in Kimryangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu, a representative traditional market in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 1st, Yongin City announced that it will operate a floating population analysis system from the 2nd to revitalize the commercial district of Yongin Jungang Market and provide 5G public Wi-Fi services for citizens' internet convenience.
To analyze floating population data, the city installed IoT sensors at a total of nine intersections, including Gate 1 of Yongin Jungang Market. The analysis sensors are connected to a control server to analyze the number of people passing through each point and provide information on congestion levels by area and user movement paths. The city, in cooperation with the market merchants' association, checks the data in real time through a separate monitoring webpage. Floating population data is collected every 2 minutes, and analysis results can be viewed daily, weekly, and monthly.
The city expects that such data analysis will help establish market marketing strategies reflecting actual demand as well as enable prompt response in emergencies such as fires.
To allow visitors to use Wi-Fi for free, 32 wireless LAN access points (APs) and one authentication server were installed in the market. Leaflets with QR codes will also be produced and distributed to help citizens conveniently use the 5G public Wi-Fi.
This system construction by the city was carried out as part of the 'Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Project.' Earlier, in December 2022, the city was selected as a regional specialized and smart urban regeneration project site by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The city is currently carrying out the 'Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Project' targeting 200,467㎡ around Yongin Jungang Market, investing 65.25 billion KRW by 2026.
