Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 1st that it is playing a significant role as a K-Culture hub by providing Korean language education in Quy Nhon City, Vietnam.

Quy Nhon is a city located in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, which has been a sister city to Yongsan-gu for 28 years. The district operates Korean language classes and Korean cultural experience programs at the Quy Nhon Sejong Institute. The Quy Nhon Sejong Institute was launched in 2016 as part of the cultural exchange cooperation project between Yongsan-gu and Quy Nhon City, in collaboration with the Sejong Institute Foundation.

Thanks to the high local interest in Korea, the Quy Nhon Sejong Institute operated 12 classes in the first half of this year, with 114 students completing the courses. Over the past eight years, the institute has produced about 2,000 Korean language learners.

In cooperation with Quy Nhon’s representative resort, FLC Golf & Resort Quy Nhon, special Korean language lectures were held for local tourism industry workers. At the request of Quy Nhon University, a Korean language course was also established within the Department of Oriental Studies, where about 60 students are currently studying.

The Quy Nhon Sejong Institute is also promoting Korean culture by offering lectures on Seoul-Yongsan travel destinations recommended by Korean language teachers, Korean traditional game experiences, and participation in Korean representative food culture festivals.

In connection with Orion Vietnam, a company located in Yongsan-gu, 2,400 Choco Pies were distributed to citizens. Additionally, with sponsorship from Korean companies operating in Binh Dinh Province such as CJ Vina Agri Binh Dinh and the clothing manufacturer SEP Plus, opportunities were created to raise awareness of Korean companies among Quy Nhon citizens.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “In the era of globalization, local governments must actively engage with the world,” and added, “Going forward, the district will continue to promote Korea and Yongsan as local diplomats through the Quy Nhon Sejong Institute and enhance its status.”
