Price Reduced by 20% per 100ml
Lotte Mart and Super announced on the 1st that they have planned a large-capacity version of the popular domestic sake (Japanese rice wine) ‘Ganbare Ottosan’ and will sell it exclusively through offline channels at 27,900 KRW.
Ganbare Ottosan is a sake product originally launched as a low-priced option during Japan’s economic recession in the 1990s so that office workers could enjoy it without burden. The newly released large-capacity Ganbare Ottosan further strengthens the core element of being an affordable sake. Compared to the most widely distributed 900ml pack product in Korea, its volume is doubled while the price per 100ml is reduced by 20%.
Lotte Mart and Super are continuously expanding their range of large-capacity, cost-effective alcoholic beverages. Representative products include last year’s ‘Keuntong Saeng Makgeolli (1.2ℓ)’ and the Japanese whiskey ‘Yamamine (1.8ℓ)’. In June this year, they also launched a large-capacity version of the benchmark No.8 Bourbon Whiskey (1.75ℓ), which is very popular among domestic consumers as a highball whiskey. Since their release, these products have ranked among the top sellers within their categories. In particular, ‘Yamamine (1.8ℓ)’ is 2.5 times larger in volume compared to mid-priced whiskeys mainly consumed as highballs, yet its price per 100ml is more than 50% cheaper, leading to a complete sell-out of the initial import volume within three months and prompting additional imports.
Jang Se-wook, product planner (MD) of the Lotte Mart & Super liquor team, said, “We planned the 1.8ℓ large-capacity ‘Ganbare Ottosan’ product to support customers struggling with ongoing high prices by offering a cost-effective option. We will continue to introduce various alcoholic beverages with reasonable prices in the future.”
