Recreational Athletes and Student Competitions to Utilize Pro Team Training Facilities
Goseong County in Gyeongnam held an opening ceremony for Goseong County Baseball Field No. 2 at the Giwol-ri Baseball Field in Goseong-eup.
The opening ceremony, held on the 29th, was attended by County Governor Lee Sanggeun, Goseong County Council Chairman Choi Eulseok, Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council members Baek Sumyeong and Heo Dongwon, members of the Goseong County Council, Goseong County Baseball Association President Choi Euncheol and its members, Goseong County Youth Baseball Team Manager Kim Seunghyun, and about 280 participants from 14 youth baseball teams from across the country.
Following the ceremony, the 'Goseong County Association President's Cup Little Baseball Tournament' was held in celebration of the opening of Goseong County Baseball Field No. 2, with 14 youth baseball teams and 280 participants, enjoying great success.
In Goseong County, many baseball clubs are active, including adult baseball teams and one youth baseball team. In May 2022, Goseong County Baseball Field No. 1 was constructed, and for the planned Goseong County Baseball Field No. 2, a total of 5.1 billion KRW was secured, including 1.7 billion KRW from the province and 3.4 billion KRW from the county. Construction of the baseball field facilities began in April 2023. During this period, Governor Lee Sanggeun conducted five on-site inspections to ensure the project was thorough and to address any deficiencies. Thanks to these efforts, Goseong County Baseball Field No. 2 was completed in May of this year.
Baseball Field No. 2 is equipped with one artificial turf field, one main stand, two locker rooms, one electronic scoreboard, and six lighting towers. It is expected to play a significant role in expanding the sports base in Goseong County by hosting friendly matches for baseball clubs, attracting training teams, and promoting recreational sports activities.
Additionally, with the opening of Baseball Field No. 2, youth baseball tournaments will be held every weekend, helping youth baseball teams pursue their dreams.
Governor Lee stated, "I am pleased that Goseong County Baseball Field No. 2, established as part of the KBO Southern Coast Baseball Belt Project, has finally opened," and promised, "We will not stop here. By investing 1.6 billion KRW to build a 1,000-square-meter indoor baseball training center near the baseball field site, we will support training camps and various baseball-related events, making Goseong County a true hub of baseball."
