Creation of a 2km Lush Green Walking Path from Garak Market Intersection to Ogeum Intersection
Near Songpa Station, Green Area Transformed into Earthing Paths with Clay and Mud Pressure Trails... Turned into a Healing Space
Songpa-gu is transforming into a path people want to walk on 365 days a year.
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has completed the ‘Yangjae-daero Roadside Green Space (Songpa-dong 188-5 area) Improvement Project’ and opened it to residents with a completion ceremony on June 28.
The district connected the previously disconnected 1km two-way sidewalks along the main road from Garak Market Intersection to Ogeum Intersection, expanded resting areas, and transformed the deteriorated green space into a healing area for residents.
This initiative is part of the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Creation Project,’ a key project of the 8th term of the local government, aimed at improving the roadside green spaces along Yangjae-daero.
In particular, near Exit 2 of Songpa Station, a variety of barefoot earthing paths have been created. Residents can experience diverse barefoot walking paths including red clay paths, loam paths, clay acupressure paths, and stone acupressure paths. By utilizing parts of the existing walking trails, green space damage was minimized, and convenience facilities such as shoe racks and foot washing stations were installed to ensure comfortable and pleasant use.
The surrounding green spaces were also newly maintained. To allow residents to encounter greenery and feel relaxation in their daily lives, 207 tree-type hibiscus plants were planted in the green spaces, and various trees, shrubs, and flowers were planted throughout the area.
Additionally, a continuous 1km walking path was created from Garak Market Intersection to Ogeum Intersection. Various facilities, including resting decks, were installed along the walking path.
The roadside green spaces, which had previously harmed the urban landscape due to hazardous trees and aging facilities, have been transformed into healing spots where people can enjoy leisure within the city.
Starting with the creation of this earthing path, efforts will be accelerated to promote the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Creation Project,’ making it a vibrant and attractive street full of sights to see and places to walk.
Centered on the ‘Songpa Avenue Garden Creation Project,’ which widens the pedestrian path from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market Intersection and plants cherry trees and seasonal flowers to create gardens, the plan is to establish abundant green spaces and flower paths throughout the area, creating a garden city where people want to walk.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope that the ‘earthing path,’ which has reborn deteriorated green spaces into healing areas, will allow residents to enjoy a healthier and happier life in their daily routines. We will continue to focus on the street garden project to make Songpa-daero a representative street in Seoul that is full of sights and vitality and a place where people want to walk.”
