Cleaning administration is the most fundamental aspect of autonomous administration.

The streets need to be clean for the city’s image as well as for the residents’ comfortable living.

In particular, if garbage is not collected for just three days, the neighborhood becomes chaotic and the city is paralyzed.

Because of this, district mayors in Seoul put great effort into the cleaning sector.

Ryu Kyung-gi, the re-elected mayor of Jungnang-gu, has been praised for cleaning the area together with residents once a week since his election in 2018.

Other district mayors such as Park Kang-su of Mapo-gu, Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu, Choi Ho-kwon of Yeongdeungpo-gu, and Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu are also dedicated to cleaning.

In the past, there was a saying, “If you only do cleaning well, getting re-elected is not difficult.”

Because of this, recently, heads and team leaders in charge of cleaning in district offices have been receiving promotions one after another.

Go Dong-seok, head of the Cleaning Administration Division in Jongno-gu, who has spent about half of his public service career working in cleaning and is regarded as a ‘cleaning master,’ was promoted to grade 4 (director) and appointed as the Director of the Culture and Environment Bureau as of July 1.

Director Go is believed to have earned this promotion by skillfully resolving difficulties caused by changing cleaning contractors and gaining recognition for his work ability from Mayor Jeong Moon-heon.

Gangnam-gu Food Alley Street Cleaning

Kim Ha-seong, head of the Resource Circulation Division in Gangnam-gu, was also promoted to grade 4 and appointed as the Director of the Planning and Economy Bureau.

Director Kim is evaluated to have managed the cleanliness of Gangnam streets much better during his 1 year and 10 months as head of the Resource Circulation Division.

Lee Im-su, team leader of the Clean Mapo Cleaning Administration Team in Mapo-gu, was promoted to grade 5 after a year of hard work and is expected to be appointed as a division head soon.

They earned the joy of promotion as a result of their hard work, checking the local garbage status every day from early morning without weekends.

Lee Pil-hyung, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, has recruited Lee In-geun, grade 2 Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Climate and Environment Headquarters, as deputy mayor to accelerate the creation of a carbon-neutral city.

When a fire broke out at the Dongdaemun-gu Environmental Resource Center in Yongdu-dong on the 16th of last month, Deputy Mayor Lee quickly responded by taking a taxi to the site and creating a group chat with relevant officials from Seoul City and Dongdaemun-gu to give instructions, demonstrating strong capability by sending food waste to resource centers in Gangdong-gu and Songpa-gu for normal processing.
