Harvesting Potatoes with Urban Farmers, Choi Ho-kwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor

Choi Ho-gwon, the mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, participated in the Farmer School held at the Mullae-dong urban garden on the morning of the 29th, harvesting potatoes together with urban farmers.

Recently, the new term ‘Sikjipsa (plant + butler)’ has emerged as the number of people raising companion plants is increasing. The Mullae-dong urban garden is also very popular, with a subscription competition rate exceeding 7 to 1, and has established itself as a representative space where people can experience urban farming.

This Farmer School, conducted by Kim Mi-soon, director of the Traditional Agriculture Research Institute, consisted of theoretical education such as plowing, fertilizing, and installing supports, followed by practical training where participants directly planted herbs and flowers in the garden and harvested fruit vegetables like peppers and potatoes.

Choi Ho-gwon, mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, said, “Through the Farmer School, I hope people learn how to live with nature even in urban life and experience the joy of growing healthy food themselves.”
