Opening and closing ceremonies, and beach cleaning (beachcombing) side events to be held
Busan City will host the '2024 Busan Mayor's Cup International Surfing Competition' at Songjeong Beach for two days, from the 29th to the 30th.
This event, organized by the city and supervised by the Busan Surfing Association, has been held annually since 2009 to promote surfing culture and expand the base of marine leisure sports.
Marking its 15th year, this competition will see over 250 participants, including both domestic and international athletes and enthusiasts, competing in thrilling matches against the backdrop of Songjeong Beach.
The competition will be held across five divisions?General, Beginner, Youth, Teen, and Korea Open?with a total of 16 events. Trophies and prize money will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
On the first day, the 29th, the opening ceremony and preliminary rounds for each event will take place. On the 30th, the semifinals, finals, awards ceremony, and closing ceremony will be held. Additionally, a beach cleaning (beachcombing) program will be conducted as a concluding side event.
Park Geunrok, Director of Tourism and MICE at the city, stated, "Songjeong Beach is one of Busan's premier marine leisure destinations, with wave and wind conditions ideal for surfing, making it a popular spot for surfers nationwide all year round. I hope that not only the participating athletes but also many citizens will come to enjoy the charm of surfing while watching the competition."
