The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province conducted an emergency safety management inspection targeting primary batteries, storage batteries, and secondary battery manufacturers within its jurisdiction.
This followed an order from Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon, who instructed, "Conduct an emergency safety inspection of all battery manufacturers in the area" after the fire at a factory in Hwaseong.
Accordingly, Suwon visited six storage battery manufacturers registered as factories in Suwon over two days, from the 25th to the 26th, to carry out safety inspections. Additionally, three companies subject to inspection by the Suwon Fire Station were also checked in cooperation with the fire department.
The inspection was conducted meticulously using a fire management card for battery manufacturing facilities, covering production items and processes, hazardous areas, dangerous materials, and fire suppression methods. In particular, the status of fire-fighting facilities, maintenance of evacuation and fire prevention facilities, and the presence of Class D fire extinguishers for metal fires were also verified.
Suwon city reported that no notable issues were found as a result of the inspection.
Furthermore, Suwon provided training to company employees on fire suppression methods and securing emergency evacuation routes in case of fire.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon urged, "To ensure that such unfortunate accidents never happen again, please prioritize worker safety at all manufacturing sites and do your utmost to prevent accidents."
