Gyeonggi Province is undertaking a research project to revitalize the marine healing industry and promote island marine healing and marine tourism.
Marine healing involves activities that utilize marine resources such as tidal flats to enhance physical and mental health, and it is a field gaining attention recently due to increased demand in health-related industries.
Gyeonggi Province believes that the marine healing industry can contribute to regional economic revitalization and the health improvement of residents, and has decided to carry out the "Gyeonggi Province Marine Healing Industry Revitalization" project to develop a systematic strategy for its advancement.
The research project includes ▲ setting management and utilization goals for marine healing resources ▲ analyzing conditions and prospects of the marine healing industry ▲ investigating, researching, and conserving marine healing resources ▲ installing and attracting marine healing facilities ▲ promoting and providing marine healing services ▲ and training specialized personnel related to marine healing.
Additionally, through a project on island marine healing and marine tourism revitalization, Gyeonggi Province will conduct a status survey of 42 inhabited and uninhabited islands within the province, explore utilization methods as marine healing tourism resources, and propose island-based marine healing tourism programs.
Gong Jeong-sik, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this project, we plan to establish a foundation to foster the marine healing industry in Gyeonggi Province as a new industry," adding, "We will evaluate the potential of marine healing in Gyeonggi Province and discover feasible policies accordingly."
Meanwhile, the results of this project will be announced by the end of this year, based on which Gyeonggi Province will establish a five-year plan for marine healing revitalization.
