A bio-specialized complex will be established in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that Siheung City was designated on the 27th in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s “National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio-Specialized Complex Competition.”
Gyeonggi Province explained that following last year’s designation of a semiconductor specialized complex, the designation of a bio-specialized complex once again confirmed the capabilities and growth potential in the advanced industry sector.
The National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio-Specialized Complex is a project to create a cluster by comprehensively supporting infrastructure, research and development (R&D), and manpower at the national level to secure a super-gap technological competitiveness in the bio field.
Siheung has Seoul National University Siheung Campus, and the construction of Seoul National University Hospital and Dental Hospital is planned. In addition, Baegot District, focused on R&D, Wolgot District, centered on startups, and Jeongwang District, serving as a production base, are located nearby, providing an optimal location for the establishment of the Gyeonggi Siheung Bio-Specialized Complex.
However, Siheung City must resolve permits related to power supply, and Jeongwang District in Siheung will be designated as a specialized complex after the development restriction zone is lifted.
Gyeonggi Province plans to promote the creation and linkage of the bio cluster, bio manpower training, and startup ecosystem development in cooperation with cities and counties within the province, starting with the designation of the specialized complex.
Once designated as a specialized complex, support will be provided for expedited permit processing, installation of various convenience facilities such as sites and industrial infrastructure, and manpower training within the specialized complex. In addition, exemptions will be granted for national and public property usage fees and lease fees for resident institutions, reductions in burdens for resident institutions and project implementers, preliminary feasibility studies for specialized complex operation support projects, and special cases regarding various regulations.
