The United States announced sanctions targeting United Arab Emirates (UAE) companies that traded with Iran. This move aims to cut off funding as Iran shows signs of securing highly enriched uranium necessary for nuclear weapons production.
On the 27th (local time), the U.S. Department of State announced sanctions against three UAE companies involved in transporting Iranian oil and petroleum products, as well as 11 vessels owned by these companies.
They are accused of assisting in the trade and transportation of Iranian oil and petroleum products, which are banned from export due to international sanctions. The U.S. government is responding with sanctions against Iran’s suspected activities related to nuclear weapons development.
Earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran had installed additional centrifuges for uranium enrichment at the Fordow underground nuclear facility.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated in a press release, "Over the past month, Iran has announced measures to further expand its nuclear program in a manner that strains credibility as peaceful," adding, "We are committed to ensuring that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons and are prepared to use all elements of national power to guarantee that outcome."
