Election of New Members Including Actors Ahn Sung-ki and Shin Goo
On the 27th, the National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea announced that poet Kim Myung-in, Western painter Seo Yong-seon, and film director Lee Jang-ho have been selected as the recipients of the 69th National Academy of Arts Award.
This prestigious award is given to artists who have made remarkable contributions to the development of the arts through outstanding creative activities. It boasts a history of 69 years. The prize money is 50 million won.
The Young Artist Award, now in its third year, was awarded to six recipients: poet Lee Byung-il, novelist Jung Yong-jun, craft artist Bae Se-jin, haegeum performer Joo Jung-hyun, conductor Lee Seung-won, and theater director Shin Yoo-chung. This award is given to artists aged 40 to 45 or younger, with a prize of 25 million won. The award ceremony will be held on September 5th at the National Academy of Arts in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
Meanwhile, the National Academy of Arts elected nine new members this year, including actors Ahn Sung-ki and Shin Goo, poet Kim Kwang-gyu, Korean painter Hong Seok-chang, craft artist Jo Jeong-hyun, Western painter Kim Hyung-dae, Oriental painter Lee Cheol-joo, playwright Lee Kang-baek, and dancer Kim Geung-soo.
According to the National Academy of Arts Act, new members are selected from artists with over 30 years of artistic experience who have made significant contributions to the development of the arts. The newly inducted members will join the existing seventy-one members and engage in various activities as members of the Academy.
