Gyeonggi-do Initiates Proactive Emergency Duty System on June 29-30 in Preparation for Heavy Rain Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province held a preliminary situation assessment meeting on the morning of the 27th in response to the forecast of heavy weekend rain and began taking preemptive measures.

Earlier, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that due to the approaching low pressure system over the West Sea, the Seoul metropolitan area would experience heavy rain and strong winds from late night on the 29th through the morning of the 30th.

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province plans to issue Emergency Level 1 starting from the night of the 29th. During Emergency Level 1, a total of 32 personnel will be on duty, including 20 public officials from disaster-related departments and 12 staff members from each major department's own situation room, to monitor the heavy rain situation and damage status in each city and county.

On the 25th, Gyeonggi Province notified relevant departments and 31 cities and counties to thoroughly manage safety in preparation for weekend heavy rain by conducting surveillance and inspections of vulnerable areas such as landslides and steep slopes.

Additionally, starting from the evening of the 28th, dangerous areas such as riversides and floodplain parking lots will be preemptively controlled, and safety management will be strictly enforced by removing foreign substances from rainwater inlets and drainage channels. Furthermore, safety measures will be implemented to secure or remove falling hazards such as outdoor signs and large cranes at construction sites in preparation for strong winds.

In particular, since the peak rainfall is expected during nighttime and early morning hours, there is concern about flooding damage to semi-basement houses. Therefore, preemptive contact with vulnerable groups such as the elderly, enhanced patrols, and forward deployment of flood control materials will be prepared.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has deployed 2,041 evacuation support personnel to assist 937 vulnerable individuals living in semi-basement houses.
