On the 27th, a 6.3km section of Local Road No. 371, the Jeokseong~Du-il Road connecting north and south in the northwest region of Gyeonggi Province from Gawol-ri, Jeokseong-myeon, Paju-si to Du-il-ri, Baekhak-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, was opened.
The Jeokseong~Du-il Road is a 4-lane road 6.34km long and 18.5m wide. It starts from Gawol Intersection in Jeokseong-myeon, Paju-si, the terminus of the Seolma~Gueup section opened in July 2018, and connects Imjingang Biryong Bridge, Areum Village, Nogok Village, Baekhak Industrial Complex, Baekhak-myeon Office, and extends to Du-il-ri.
Local Road No. 371 was designed in 2008 but remained incomplete for a long time due to budget issues. However, with a concentrated investment of 30.7 billion KRW over two years?12.7 billion KRW in 2023 and 18 billion KRW in 2024?the road was opened on this day.
Previously, the road was a narrow, winding 2-lane road with frequent movement of military training vehicles, passage through anti-tank defense facilities (overpass rockfall), and heavy logistics transport vehicles, leading to many safety concerns.
With this expansion and opening, smooth logistics transportation for the industrial complex and employment promotion, as well as the safety of road users, have been secured.
This project is the second road opening following the Namyangju Onam~Sudong local road in February, after Gyeonggi Province announced the ‘Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Development Vision’ in September last year.
The transportation conditions and inconveniences of residents in the northwest region of Gyeonggi, including Paju-si and Yeoncheon-gun, have been greatly improved, expected to significantly contribute to reducing logistics costs and the development of the northwest Gyeonggi area.
Gyeonggi Province is focusing its budget on road projects this year, investing 433.8 billion KRW, an increase of 159.2 billion KRW compared to 274.6 billion KRW last year.
Gyeonggi Province plans to complete a total of 14 local roads by 2026. So far, three roads have been opened: Namyangju Onam~Sudong (February), Yeoju Cheonsong~Sinnam (May), and Paju·Yeoncheon Jeokseong~Du-il (June). In the future, three roads including Paju Munsan~Naepo2, six roads in 2025, and two roads in 2026 are scheduled to open, totaling 11 roads.
