"Escape the Heat"... Gwangjin-gu Expands Operation of 'Gwangjin Saengsuteo' for Heatwave Preparedness

Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Teams in Each Neighborhood Participate, Distributing Bottled Water Three Times Daily and Managing Water Stations

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has become the first autonomous district in Seoul to start operating the ‘Gwangjin Saengsuteo’ from the 27th to respond quickly to the early heatwave.

To prevent heatstroke or exhaustion symptoms that are likely to occur in hot weather, it is recommended to drink enough water.

Accordingly, the district installed Gwangjin Saengsuteo at three locations last year ? Ginkgo Valley, Gwangjin Supnaru, and Jungnangcheon Trail ? and operated them on a trial basis to support safe outdoor activities for residents and prevent heatwave damage.

This year, as the average summer temperature is expected to be higher than usual, two additional locations ? the entrance to Jungnangcheon Water Playground and two small gardens at Achasan ? will be added, operating a total of five Gwangjin Saengsuteo sites earlier than last year.

At Gwangjin Saengsuteo, refrigerators are installed to provide 500ml ice-cold bottled water free of charge. The service will run for about two months until August 26, every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends and holidays. Any Gwangjin-gu resident visiting the trails can freely use the service.

Local autonomous disaster prevention teams in each neighborhood will participate and supply 240 bottles of ice-cold water to each Saengsuteo three times a day (9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.).

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We started operating Gwangjin Saengsuteo quickly to protect residents’ lives from the early heatwave,” adding, “We will do our best to minimize heatwave damage and ensure that all residents can spend the summer healthily.”
