Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province is set to begin formal funeral procedures for the victims of the fire at the Jeongok-ri Arisel factory.


According to Hwaseong City on the 27th, with the identities of 17 out of the 23 victims confirmed, discussions with the bereaved families regarding the funeral procedures started from this day.

On the same day, the city held an explanatory meeting about the funeral support procedures for about 20 bereaved family members at the 'Integrated Victim Support Center' set up in the city hall auditorium. The meeting was held privately.


The meeting focused on explaining the funeral and departure support procedures for the families and gathering their preferences regarding the type of funeral they wished to have.


Earlier that morning, during a briefing by the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, Son Im-seong, Vice Mayor of Hwaseong City, explained regarding funeral support, "The city plans to support funeral procedures at five funeral halls prepared by the city, according to the wishes of the bereaved families."


Vice Mayor Son added, "Currently, we have prepared seven rest areas for the victims' families, including five waiting rooms for the bereaved families, one support room, and one counseling room. From the moment bereaved families arriving from overseas land at the airport, our support team and interpreters are closely assisting them at all times."


In addition, the city plans to operate additional memorial spaces this afternoon at the Hwaseong City Eastern Branch Office and Dongtan Branch Office, in addition to the joint memorial altar currently set up in the lobby on the first floor of city hall.
