Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do has entered the preparation stage to designate Chukryeongsan Cypress Forest as a natural recreation forest.
The county recently held a kickoff meeting for the "Feasibility Evaluation and Preliminary Site Survey for Chukryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest" at the county office situation room, the county announced on the 27th.
About 30 people, including Kim Han-jong, the head of Jangseong-gun, and department heads, attended the kickoff meeting to share comprehensive opinions on the application for designating the Chukryeongsan area as a natural recreation forest.

Chukryeongsan Cypress Forest, the largest artificial forest in Korea created by the "Reforestation King" Lim Jong-guk, is a vast forest covering 1,150 hectares (ha) composed of evergreen trees such as cypress and cedar, creating a magnificent view.
The Korea Forest Service recognized its unique value and designated it as a "beautiful forest to be preserved for the 22nd century."
The area the county intends to apply for natural recreation forest designation is 31 hectares (ha) of county-owned land in Moam-ri, Seosam-myeon.
If designated as a natural recreation forest by the Korea Forest Service, the site will be grouped into a single district, easing regulations when promoting projects such as the development of healing forests.
Also, various public contests and support projects can be applied for in an integrated manner, accelerating future tourism resource development projects.
The "Feasibility Evaluation and Preliminary Site Survey for Chukryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest" will be conducted until December this year.
At the kickoff meeting, forest analysis data such as ▲tree species and distribution ▲forest function map ▲ecological natural map of the parcels to be incorporated into the recreation forest were shared.
Plans for natural environment surveys including flora and fauna, weather, and terrain, as well as Q&A on the designation and approval procedures for the natural recreation forest, were also conducted.
If the Korea Forest Service approves the designation of Chukryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest, the county will proceed with the basic plan and detailed design service and begin full-scale recreation forest development around 2026.
County head Kim Han-jong said, "We will do our best to transform Chukryeongsan Cypress Forest, the pride of Jangseong, into a premium natural recreation forest," adding, "We will carefully compare and analyze excellent cases from other regions and actively collect opinions from experts and local residents."
