Two high school students who posted online threats of stabbing and murder targeting a high school in Incheon were apprehended by the police.
The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency and Bupyeong Police Station announced on the 27th that high school students A and B were each booked without detention on charges of intimidation.
They are suspected of posting threatening messages on an online community between the 16th and 17th, warning of stabbing or murder targeting a certain high school in Incheon. Student A posted a message specifying a particular grade and class, stating that he would "wield a weapon," while student B wrote a post saying he would "murder a certain teacher."
The police initially believed both posts came from the same Internet Protocol (IP) address and began tracking the suspect, but during the investigation, they confirmed the posts originated from separate IPs and arrested A and B individually.
The police are also considering applying charges of obstruction of official duties by deception due to the waste of police resources caused by their threatening posts.
A police official stated, "The threatening posts did not lead to actual acts," and added, "We plan to summon students A and B soon to investigate the exact circumstances of the case, including their motives."
Meanwhile, the education authorities have confirmed that these students posted the threatening messages targeting their own school and are reportedly providing psychological support for the affected teachers and students.
