Fire Commissioner Heo Seok-gon and Meteorological Agency Chief Jang Dong-eon Appointed

President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 27th nominated Kang Min-su, head of the Seoul Regional Tax Office, as the new Commissioner of the National Tax Service. Kim Jong-moon, presidential secretary for national policy tasks, was appointed as the First Deputy Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
Additionally, Heo Seok-gon, head of the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, was selected as the new Commissioner of the Fire Agency, and Jang Dong-eon, deputy director of the Korea Meteorological Administration, was appointed as the new Commissioner of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
The Presidential Office announced these political appointments on the same day.
The new National Tax Service Commissioner candidate, Kang, is originally from Changwon, Gyeongnam, and studied Business Administration at Seoul National University and the University of Birmingham in the UK. He is regarded as an expert who has held key positions such as Director of the Investigation Division 3 at the Seoul Regional Tax Office, Planning and Coordination Officer, and Commissioner of the Seoul Regional Tax Office.
The Presidential Office explained, "He is the right person to steadily carry out the major tasks of the National Tax Service based on his extensive experience in tax policy and excellent communication skills."
Although the Commissioner of the National Tax Service holds a vice-ministerial rank, as the head of a key power institution, the appointment requires a confirmation hearing by the National Assembly.
Kim Jong-moon, the new First Deputy Minister, graduated from Korea University with a degree in Public Administration and earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University. He entered public service through the 37th administrative examination and has held major positions such as Director of the Regulatory Coordination Office and Chief Policy Officer for Regulation and Planning at the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
In the current administration, he has served as a secretary at the Presidential Office, overseeing the implementation of national policy tasks.
The Presidential Office stated, "Based on his rich experience in national planning, outstanding execution ability, and communication skills, he is expected to assist the Prime Minister in coordinating national issues."
Heo Seok-gon, the new Fire Agency Commissioner, graduated from Busan National University with a degree in Oceanography and has served as a firefighter for over 30 years. He is a fire safety expert who has led the fire departments of Busan, Incheon, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan.
He is evaluated as the right person to protect the safety of the public from natural disasters and urban emergencies based on his extensive field command experience in firefighting.
Jang Dong-eon, the new Commissioner of the Korea Meteorological Administration, is a meteorological expert who previously worked as a researcher at NASA and has held key positions within the Korea Meteorological Administration for 23 years.
The Presidential Office expressed expectations that "based on his extensive experience in meteorological administration, he will protect the public from hazardous weather and earthquakes and lead stable meteorological services."
