"Crazy for Free"... Man Sweeps Up Ice and Drinks Whole Bags from Beverage Machine

On the 25th, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' reported that a tipster, Mr. A, witnessed some people at a movie theater in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the 21st, filling bags with ice from an unmanned beverage machine. In the video capturing the situation, a man is seen walking away carrying a plastic bag full of ice, accompanied by another person who appeared to be part of the group. Mr. A tried to get ice from the unmanned beverage machine himself, but only heard the machine's sound without any ice coming out.

Mr. A explained, "Because the man spilled ice at the outlet while taking it all, the machine ran out of ice," adding, "Even when the next people tried to fill their cups with ice, none came out." He further stated, "Although the drinks are self-served, the civic consciousness seems really terrible, so I am reporting this."

Professor Oh Yoon-sung from Soonchunhyang University's Department of Police Administration, who watched the video, said, "People who behave like that mistakenly think they are smart," and added, "They are likely to cause trouble for others by using cunning tricks." He continued, "In the past, people around would intervene and ask, 'Why are you doing that?' but nowadays, people avoid such confrontations fearing disputes," expressing his concern by saying, "I feel that the quality of our society is gradually declining."

Netizens who saw this were outraged. One netizen shared, "I have seen such people before. They filled several plastic bags, about 10 liters each, with ice," and added, "They kept taking ice until none was left, so customers couldn’t get any. I believe they were punished." Other reactions included comments like, "First Costco’s onion machine, then IKEA’s pencils disappeared, and now it’s the movie theater," "I’ve never seen an ice beggar before," "Why are there so many people crazy about free stuff?" "Disgusting," "Isn’t this a kind of business obstruction?" and "Whether by removing the self-service machine or assigning staff, it should be ensured that all customers can use it without inconvenience."
